Somers is a small, quiet seaside village with a safe and pleasant swimming beach located about 80 km south of Melbourne on the eastern side of the Mornington Peninsula, and on the western shore of Western Port Bay.
This part of the coast is very beautiful and has lots of attractions and recreational facilities. Somers is a coastal recreation resort famous for its foreshore reserve and pine-covered cliffs.
Somers has a post office, general store, tennis courts, community hall, barbecue facilities, picnic areas, and a yacht club beach boat ramp.
It is also home to the Lord Somers Camp and just down the road from HMAS Cerberus, the Navy's premier training establishment.

The RAAF trained here during World War II and the military buildings were later taken over by the Education Department which established the Somers Camp. This focus on the area's recreational and scenic values led to the emergence of holiday homes and campgrounds. Somers and Merricks had a combined population, in 1996, of 963.
